Biological Resources
Our goal is to make the most of what our property has to offer. At the moment, that would be balsam firs and ticks. However, these balsams are a resource that can be used as part of a solution for the ticks. That solution in turn, will aid us in the most important process when building a homestead: building better soil. Plant health starts with soil health!
Harvesting Wood
Our property is densely forested and in need of rejuvenation. With the right tools and selective cutting, this resource will literally help us build our foundations. With it, we can build a coop for chickens, who will eat our ticks, trim the lawn and fertilize it a little bit too. We intend to put every branch to use and with these tools, we’ll definitely be able to.

Soil Building
There are a myriad of living things that are responsible for creating the richest soil on the planet, and there are a tiny select few that we can put to use. This is an insanely broad topic that Elise is struggling to keep brief. She stares at the spines of books on topics like mycology, mighty microbes and no till philosophies, but is forced to include links rather than discussing further.
